Key Coaching Decision #1: (Dallas 2-point Conversion, CAR 2, 8:48 4Q)
• Dallas elected to attempt the 2-point conversion with 8:48 left in the game in order to bring them to an 8-point deficit. Although the attempt was successful, we do not condone going for two points with more than five minutes left in the game, and therefore considered this a negative to Dallas’ play calling score.
• Both teams struggled with play clock management in this game. The Panthers burned about 10 seconds of play clock at the end of the first half that prevented them from making an attempt at the end zone, instead having to settle for a field goal. The Cowboys incurred two delay-of-game penalties, one of which was on their first drive of the game where most of the plays are scripted.
• Dallas struggled to find offensive production in this game. They did not convert a third down until well into the 3rd quarter. The offense started the game poorly and never seemed to improve, which is why they were penalized in the categories of play calling, game planning, and in-game adjustments.
