• Cincinnati burned through two timeouts in 1st quarter. This cost them at the end of the first half when they had Carolina held deep in their own territory but could not stop the Panthers from running out the clock.
• The Panthers offense looked exceptionally in sync for parts of this game. The offense was able to run the ball effectively, connect with receivers on timing routes, and use shifts and motions to get the defense out of position. This was credited to their personnel and game planning scores.
Key Coaching Decision:
• Carolina leads by seven at the start of the 4th quarter and elects to go for it on 4th & 4 from the CIN 41. This was an unnecessary risk that gave the Bengals excellent field position and an opportunity to tie the game. Four yards is not a trivial amount to gain which made the decision feel high risk and low probability. Carolina’s play calling score was significantly reduced for this decision.
