Vic Fangio (60) was named head coach of the Denver Broncos on Jan. 10, 2019, replacing Vance Joseph after two seasons. After 32 years as an NFL assistant, this is his first head coaching opportunity. Fangio was defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears the previous four seasons, and presided over the 2018 unit that led the NFL in rushing defense and scoring defense.
Fangio’s first NFL experience was as linebackers coach with the New Orleans Saints (1986-94). He then had stints as defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers (1995-98), Indianapolis Colts (1999-2001) and Houston Texans (2002-05). From 2011-14, he was defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh for the San Francisco 49ers, part of the staff that led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII.
