Continuing with our series on how we perceive all NFL Head Coaches, and the tiers they would fit into for us:
Tier 2
John Harbaugh – He’s re-designing the Ravens on the fly, and while many of last season’s games weren’t artistic, he did commit to the changes and in our view, performed as well as they could have given the circumstances. Harbaugh is widely respected for his attention to detail, rules and otherwise. His teams play a very distinct brand of football, and he doesn’t mail in his efforts.
Sean McVay – He would be in Tier 1 if he had just a bit more tenure and track record, but clearly, he is one of the stars of this fraternity. He has the requisite passion, communication skills, innovation and command of his players. The respect is deep at all layers of the organization, and in just a short time, everyone within the NFL knows that the Rams’ voice goes through only one person: McVay. We do sense that he needs to get just a bit better with in-game adjustments; the Super Bowl showed how he can improve. But we’re nitpicking – this is a head coach who will be in the NFL a very long time.
And as a recap, here are our Top 2 tiers thus far:
