• The Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr had a disagreement on the sideline that sprung from Derek Carr calling consecutive timeouts that resulted in a 5-yard penalty, turning a manageable 3rd & 2 into a 3rd & 7. Although it was Carr that called the timeouts, the fact that he needed to use back-to-back timeouts indicates that there may be some communication issues getting the play from the sideline to the huddle. For this reason, we did grade this sequence against Oakland’s game clock management score. More on the exchange can be read here.
• Arizona had game clock management issues of their own, namely on their final offensive drive of the game. Holding onto a one-point lead with 3:50 to go in the game, the Cardinals were only able to burn 1:50 off the game clock before punting the ball back to the Raiders, leaving them with enough time to eventually score a game winning field goal.
