- This game featured a few key personnel changes for each team. Jacksonville was without their starting running back Leonard Fournette due to a team rule violation resulting in a one game suspension. In the first half, Bengals WR got tangled up with Jacksonville DB Jalen Ramsey, and both players were ejected from the game.
- Going into the game, Cincinnati looked to take advantage of RB Leonard Fournette’s absence by focusing on taking away the run game. Most teams try to beat Jacksonville by forcing QB Blake Bortles to throw the ball, and Cincinnati looked to follow the same blueprint in this game. To Jacksonville’s credit, they called plenty of short to medium pass plays that didn’t ask too much of Bortles and allowed him to be productive, finishing the day with 259 yards and 1 touchdown.
- Without WR A.J. Green, the Bengals offense struggled to find much production, only gaining 148 yards of total offense on the day.
- Both teams had some struggles with game clock management in the 2nd quarter, as each coach was forced to burn a timeout in order to prevent a Delay of Game penalty.
