With another week of data at our disposal, Head Coach Ranking can project five pointspread winners in Week 16 NFL games.
As a reminder, we began to experiment with using our HCR numbers for NFL head coaches as a gaming metric midway through the 2017 season. After we compiled eight regular-season games of data, we began an internal experiment by developing a gaming algorithm that relied solely on our HCR scores. We then made the experiment public for the 2018 NFL season.
Using ONLY our HCR ratings in our proprietary algorithm (not considering any other variables such as injuries, weather, home/road, or any others), we are 52 percent against the spread so far this season and 55 percent since inception. In Week 15 we went 6-8 against the spread.
One note: If the HCR differential between the opposing coaches is not at least .2 we will not make a pick on that game. This week, one game falls under that category: Dallas-Philadelphia. In weeks 16 and 17, we also will not be making any recommendation if the game involves any team that already has been eliminated from the playoffs.
With that in mind, here are our ATS picks for Week 16 based on consensus lines on Wednesday morning.
San Francisco (-6)
New England (-6.5)
New Orleans (-1)
