It’s only Week 2 of the NFL season and there are already some important matchups that will impact division races. Each week, Head Coach Ranking presents its exclusive Head 2 Head numbers – comparing the rankings of the coaches that are facing off.
Here are a few matchups to watch:
• The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers will be duking it out for bragging rights in the NFC North, and this is always a classic battle between the Vikings’ defensive-minded Mike Zimmer and the Packers’ offensive-minded Mike McCarthy.
• The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets both had big wins in Week 1, thus head coaches Adam Gase and Todd Bowles graded out well. If either of these teams are going to mount any kind of challenge to the New England Patriots in the AFC East, a 2-0 start would certainly help.
• Pat Shurmur had a timeout issue in his debut with the New York Giants that affected his HCR grade; Jason Garrett also graded out low in the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 1 loss at Carolina. Is Week 2 too early for a must-win game?
• Thursday night’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals features the two coaches with the highest combined grades from Week 1: Baltimore’s John Harbaugh (9.2) was HCR’s top-ranked coach in Week 1; Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis (7.6) was tied for seventh.
