As always, Week 10 presents some interesting matchups in the NFL, particularly when it comes to coaches going up against each other. Each week, Head Coach Ranking presents its exclusive Head 2 Head numbers – comparing the rankings of the coaches that are facing off.
Here are a few matchups to watch:
• There’s only one matchup this week between coaches that are both in the top 10 of the Head Coach Rankings: New Orleans at Cincinnati. The Saints’ Sean Payton is third overall with an HCR grade of 8.1; the Bengals’ Marvin Lewis is tied for 10th (7.2).
• The Patriots-Titans game is not a top 10 matchup, but it is an intriguing game between New England head coach Bill Belichick and his former star linebacker, Tennessee rookie head coach Mike Vrabel. It’s not exactly a teacher vs. pupil situation, though, as Vrabel never actually coached under Belichick. But as a player for the Patriots from 2001-08, he certainly learned a thing or two from the future Hall of Fame coach.
• There are six division games this week, two of which are rematches from earlier this season. Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams look for a sweep of the Seattle Seahawks after earning a hard-fought 33-31 win over Pete Carroll’s squad in Week 5. Anthony Lynn and the Los Angeles Chargers go for the sweep against Jon Gruden and the Raiders after beating Oakland, 26-10, in Week 5.
• One of those other division games is an NFL North clash between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. That game is also this week’s only matchup of rookie head coaches. The Bears’ Matt Nagy is ranked sixth overall with an HCR score of 7.5. Detroit’s Matt Patricia is tied for 26th at 6.6.
