The final weekend of the 2019 NFL regular season is behind us and with that we have our final head coach rankings update.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was burned again by one of his defensive disciples. Last year, Matt Patricia and Mike Vrabel beat their mentor and this year it was Brian Flores’ turn. The Miami Dolphins stunned the Patriots in Foxborough and took away their first-round bye. Flores has gotten his team to play hard all season and this victory over his former team was the cherry on top.
Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints absolutely ran over the Carolina Panthers. The Saints did everything in their power to secure a first-round bye, which is all a coach can ask for from his players. Unfortunately for them, the game they couldn’t control didn’t favor them. Still, this was an impressive way to cap their strong season.
Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers came away with the biggest win of the season for them in yet another close game against an excellent team. The past five 49ers games have all come down to the last possession and this time the 49ers stood strong to secure a first-round bye. It’s quite a feat for a team not used to winning to go five straight weeks and compete until the last possession against the NFL’s top teams. And most recently, they did it in one of the toughest places to win on the road.
Doug Pederson and Mike Vrabel both guided their teams to playoff berths by taking care of business on their own ends. Doug Marrone’s Jacksonville Jaguars ended their tough season on a high note.
Here are HCR’s Top 10 head coaches for Week 17:
