Key Decision #1: (Game tied 0-0/Kickoff NYJ 35/15:00 Q1)
- New York opened the game with an onside kick. They recovered. We do not consider gadget on-side kick plays as prudent plays, as we feel it is an undue gamble on field position. This decision was reflected in the Jets play calling grade.
Key Observations:
- The Jets called pass plays on multiple 3rd and short situations in this game, and most times did not convert the first down. On a 3rd and 4 where they did call a run play, they scored a touchdown. Given that they were starting a backup quarterback, we feel that not trying to run the ball on most 3rd and short situations warrants a downgrade in play calling and personnel grades.
- We like the Jets defensive game planning. For most the game the Jets were able to contain the explosive Los Angeles offense.
