Key Coaching Decision #1: (DET ball, trailing 13-6 / Kickoff / 8:01 Q3)
• After a Lions field goal to cut the Rams’ lead to seven, Detroit attempted an onside kick that the Rams recovered in Detroit territory. L.A. capped the drive with a field goal to extend their lead to 10 points. With how well the Lions were playing defense, this was an unnecessary risk that the Lions never recovered from.
• In a game where Rams quarterback Jared Goff struggled, Todd Gurley led the way with over 160 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. His fourth-quarter touchdown sealed the win as the Rams clinched the NFC West title with four games left to play.
• Aaron Donald was unblockable as he finished with two sacks, a forced fumble and four tackles for loss. Detroit had no answer for Donald as he completely dominated the game. He has 16.5 sacks on the season and is trying to win back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards for the surging Rams.
• Detroit wasted a great effort by their defense as they held the explosive Rams offense to 344 yards of total offense. They were able to force two turnovers and sacked Jared Goff four times on the day.
