• Minnesota came into this game extremely well prepared on the defensive side of the ball. They exhibited excellent blitz design that was effective in disrupting rookie quarterback Josh Rosen. The Vikings defense accounted for three sacks and one interception, a performance that is credited to Minnesota’s personnel, play calling, and game planning grades.
• Both teams exhibited some errors in game clock management. The Vikings used all three of their timeouts prior to their final drive of the second half. Steve Wilks lost a timeout on a poor challenge at the start of the second half.
Key Coaching Decision:
• Arizona trailing by seven points at 12:07 in the second quarter attempts to convert a Fourth & goal from the 1-yard line instead of kicking field goal. The conversion is unsuccessful and should not have been attempted in the first place, as taking points when on the road is paramount, especially with a rookie quarterback at the helm. Resulted in severe downgrade to Arizona’s play calling score.
